Clifton er en serie oprindeligt skabt af Raymond Macherot, der også har tegnet serierne om Sibyline, Kloro og Katnap. Ulig de andre tegneserier, der alle har dyr i hovedrollerne, handler Clifton om en pensioneret oberst, der arbejder for den britiske spionagetjeneste MI5/MI6. Macherot tegnede selv kun tre historier med Clifton i 1960'erne, nemlig Clifton og Sværvægterbanden, Clifton i New York og Clifton og Spionerne. Disse blev først senere udgivet af Carlsen Comics i ét samlet album under titlen Tre sager for Clifton. Derefter lå serien på hylden i nogle år, indtil den blev overtaget af forfatteren Bob de Groot og tegneren Turk, der i 1970 genstartede serien med Sagen om Wilkinson.
